Clown Workshop at TDC

22 Jan
I, A Clown

A workshop facilitated by Raymond Keane, Artistic Director of Barabbas Theatre Company.

Raymond is a founding member of Barabbas and has over twenty-five years experience as clown performer, teacher, director and maker of clown theatre.

This 2 day workshop is an introduction to Theatre of Clown through The Mask of Four Temperaments and The Mask of Red Nose. The course will focus on unearthing each participant’s individual clown. The goal is to gain understanding and practice of the clown state and learn what it is to be ‘authentically present’.

Date: Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd February
Time: 10am to 5pm
Venue: The Theatre Development Centre, Triskel
Cost: €35

Booking: Please email giving your name and phone number and we will contact you to confirm your place. Capacity is very limited and places will be allocated on first to book basis.

The TDC is very grateful to Raymond Keane for facilitating this workshop.

This February we will be hosting a series of workshops and discussions, as outlined at our recent meeting in the Town Hall Theatre. While we are still ironing out the finer details, the start of the month is shaping up like this:

** Saturday 9th Feb
10am – 12 noon – Group discussion on Creativity: Inspiration, Methods and Realisation led by a local professional theatre maker

This group discussion will give people the chance to discuss their work and methods, meet other practitioners and learn from an experienced professional. It may be the first in a series of discussions of this nature.

noon – 12:45 – Break

12:45 – 1:30 – Presentation on Building Working Relationships with Jane Daly (Irish Theatre Institute)

1:45 – 2:45 – Table workshop with Jen Coppinger (independent Producer) on Producing Independent Theatre

3 – 3:45 – Info clinic with David Parnell (Arts Council) on funding strands and applications for emerging theatre

3:45 – 4:15 – Tea break

4:15 – 5:30 – Panel discussion (title & panel TBA)

The whole day of workshops costs €10. You will be given a ticket on the day which grants you access to every event and these will be checked on the door. If you can only make one event, or three, or all, the price is still €10.

Coming up

The award-winning production of Follow at the Town Hall Theatre with a post-show discussion.

** Saturday 16th Feb TBC

Call for Creative Quickies

16 Jan

Creative Quickies as part of JOLT at Studio THT is now seeking applications.

Do you have an idea for a play, or even an idea of an idea?

We are looking for new, original theatrical notions for an evening of Creative Quickies on Monday 18th February. We’re not after anything finished, polished or perfect, just an expression of something different that you would like to develop.
All you need for Creative Quickies is a fresh approach, some performers and a piece no longer than ten minutes. Don’t worry about costume, props and set, be as economical with time as you can and focus on the substance rather than the extras.

Each company selected for Creative Quickies will
– be given a minimum of four hours rehearsal time in Studio THT free of charge
– receive full PR & admin support from the JOLT team
– have to attend a minimum of one JOLT workshop held over Saturday 9th & 16th February (see note below)
– get a subsidised ticket to Follow and Solpadeine Is My Boyfriend

Please note: If you are not free to attend workshops on either the weekend of 9th or 16th February you are ineligible for this round of Creative Quickies. It is mandatory that at least one representative of each company attend a minimum of one workshop. Workshops will be priced at €10 which covers a full day of events.

We are looking for something different. Something exciting. Something new. Be ambitious. Be creative. Be quick!

If you would like to be considered for Creative Quickies please email with a short outline of your idea and why it fits our brief, along with a page of script / sketched ideas / supporting material, and your name and phone number by midnight on Thursday 7th February.

We look forward to your application!

New Year, New Cheer

15 Jan

The road to hell is paved with good intentions but here we go . . .

We held a meeting with theatre makers on Monday evening (14th January) in the Town Hall Theatre, Galway to discuss our proposed series of events for January and February. Although in this photograph it looks like people were asleep, the meeting was actually quite lively and a lot was discussed and noted in the tight 60 minute period.

JOLT meet Jan 2013

No, really.

Anyway, we are going away now to finalise the document, taking on board the level of interest and the suggestions made at the meeting and we will be back with a definitive, deadly document that is cobbled with the very best intentions . . . .  Stay tuned!
