Volition 2014 #8: The Singing Tree

16 May

From now until the Volition performance event TOMORROW NIGHT (!) we will feature regular pieces about each of the works in progress you will see on the night. These are presented in no particular order so embrace the randomness.

I want to explore how people control and help each other and how the line between the two is often blurred. This piece deliberately struggles through crossed wires of guilt, sympathy, power and pain. Working with the idea, I was always drawn to situating that struggle for freedom and acknowledgement in the female body and mind. With this piece, I want to create not another set of female victims but give the strength and resilience of women a chance to breathe.
