Actors assemble!

27 Jul

Actors, performers, creators and theatre makers needed for new JOLT project in August.

What emotions lie underneath the surface of music? Lovers exchange glances and form jealousies as they are immersed in deep hypnotic tones, but is it fear or anticipation that drives the soul? One night in a theatre brings the troubles of desire to the surface for a couple lost in the void!

Immersed in the Void is an immersive theatre piece, created on a foundation of crossing art forms, where audience members will be invited to share a group experience in both theatre and non-theatre spaces.

The event will be created by an ensemble of actors and creative practitioners working with well-known local electronic duo Voids over three weeks to create an interactive piece that invites audience members to explore human nature and the innate connections between music and emotion.

What we are looking for

We are looking for actors, dancers, stage managers and creative thinkers to work as an ensemble over three weeks in conjunction with a live band to create an immersive piece of theatre on the 19th and 20th of August. Applicants should be aware that the piece will involve audience interaction and will be a movement-based project.

All participants must be over 18 and have a background or interest in theatre.

Participants must be available for at least 6-8 hours of rehearsal between July 28 and the performances on August 19-20. Rehearsals will take place in Galway City.

If you meet the requirements above, please email and include your headshot, your CV (no more than 2 pages) and a paragraph outlining the reasons for your interest in this project.

Application deadline-Friday 1st of August

All hail the new producers

11 Jul

JOLT is thrilled to welcome on board two brilliant heads who will be programming & producing the August series of events at Town Hall Theatre. We know the JOLT banner (metaphoric banner, we don’t have an actual banner) will be safe in their hands and we’re looking forward to seeing what they dream up in our latest theatre development project and the last one of the year for JOLT.  August will comprise a series of diverse events from the creative to the practical, from workshops to performances, all currently under discussion and TBC by our new fearless project leaders.

Féilim O’hAoláin

For many years Féilim has has run club nights and concerts of various types in a number of venues around the city, giving a platform for emerging artists and musicians alike. For the past number of years he has also produced cultural events such as Culture Night at the Bridge Mills, Arts in Action (a weekly lunchtime music series) in NUIG, work with his theatre company DoDo theatre, and managing and performing with music/spectacle outfit The Hardcore Priests of Yemen.

‘I believe in the positives of a crossover of art forms in a performance and experimenting with formats to create experiences that will allow audience members to be immersed fully in the work, creating something new and bold for Galway audiences. This is an excellent initiative by JOLT and a great opportunity for artists and audiences in the city. The project appeals to me as JOLT has always pushed for creating new experiences and opportunities and I hope that we can create something new, intriguing and inspiring for audiences for the August series.’
